Adoption Update with Husky Hero, Cashew

What’s your name and the name of your beloved husky hero!

Gabriella, Graham, and Cashew. Also known as Cash Cash, The Nut, Cashewquiet (all one word especially on early morning walks).

Where do you live?

South of Bragg Creek

When did you adopt your retired sled dog?

November 2021 – he came for an overnight and never left.

Describe your family, partner, kids and other animals?

One reactive husky cross rescued from Fort MacPherson, NWT, and two slightly less reactive humans, Gabriella and Graham.

What motivated you to adopt a retired sled dog?

Company for an older rescue husky.

What do you love most about having an adoptee sled dog join your family?

Watching him learn how to become part of the family. He’s trusting us enough to know the sounds inside the house are not monsters lurking around and is able to learn new behaviours at 13.

Cashew also showed us how amazing Rozi (his husky buddy) is at tolerating his antics including walking all over her, sitting on her, pushing her off the trail, following her in the house, and stealing her favourite lie down spots.

What 3 activities does your adoptee enjoy the most?

Going for walks, eating, and any type of affection especially face rubs.

What new skills did your husky hero learn since living with you?

Eating an entire meal with most of the food actually contained in the bowl. Getting on the couch. Sleeping on the bed.

Did adopting a retired sled dog meet all your expectations?

Cashew met all our husky expectations. He is high energy, slightly nutty, and a little bit neurotic. He also exceeded all our expectations. Cashew’s amazingly funny, curious, inquisitive, and super affectionate. You can teach an old dog new tricks.
